911 to the Rescue
By Loyal Hines
January 1992, a beautiful little girl was born. She was the apple of my eye. She was so smart, so quick to learn. By the time she was 1, I was convinced she was a genius and was excited to see where life would take her. February 1993, My baby stiffened up, and then started to shake like an earthquake was taking place in her body. She got so hot I could hardly hold her,HELP!! MY BABY STOPPED BREATHING! 911 WAS CALLED, Help is on the way. I started CPR. Our fantastic EMT team just happened to be on a return run from a distant transport and they were only 4 blocks from our home. Praise the Lord!! Our home was filled quickly with local first responders and EMT'S, they stabilized her, hooked up an IV, put her on Oxygen( not necessarily in that order) and was rushed to our local hospital. She was so sick, her temperature was 106 degrees F. She was having difficulty breathing. Our fear was so thick that it was palatable. I was having trouble breathing. I would have gladly traded places with her. Our EMT's and First Responders are fantastic! They saved my baby's life. The Emergency Room staff was excellent. Our baby did survive, and is now 18 years old. But, this day was an Epiphany for us. Everything changed and we now talk about before the crisis and after the crisis. My girl is still beautiful and wonderful and I love her with all my heart. Her life is radically different than I had planned for her. You see during her illness she lost all of her previously learned skills, she could no longer, talk, walk, feed herself-nothing it was like having a 13 month old infant. In time some things improved, but I will save the details for another Intel. (Note: this story is NOT fiction) The author of this story is Loyal Hines, the father of the the child in this Intel.
